ABOUT THE ISLAND

RHODES

row 1
Rhodes is one of the most popular destinations in the Aegean Sea. It is part of the Dodecanese island complex and it is well-known for its impressive castles, stone-paved alleys and enchanting beaches.
It is nicknamed “the island of the Knights” because the knights of St John ruled the area for approximately two centuries (1310-1522). Numerous castles that still stand on the island are the remnants of that historic period.
The Old Town is one of the most picturesque areas and it is even listed as a World Heritage Site. Walking down the traditional alleys, you will feel as if you have travelled back in time. Admire the exquisite architecture of the old mansions and become acquainted with the locals who are well-known for their hospitality.
South Rhodes has remained unspoilt and that’s why it attracts visitors who want to marvel at the natural beauty of the island. There are innumerable sandy beaches where you can relish a refreshing swim and at the same time enjoy the surrounding green scenery.
During your stay, you should also try the local cuisine and sample palatable delicacies. Don’t forget to accompany your meals with the famous traditional wine as Rhodes is the first island in the Aegean Sea that started making wine.
